The Tri-Valley Mustangs hosted the Dell Rapids Quarriers in the final regular season home game on Thursday, October 21st. On the line was a home game in the opening round of the playoffs as both teams entered the game with a 5-3 record and tied for fourth in seed points.
Dell Rapids got on the board first in the opening drive of the game for an early 7-0 lead. Owen Besmer pulled the Mustangs within in a point later in the quarter on a two-yard run, but the extra point was missed. The score remained 7-6 after the first quarter.
That’s when the Quarrier offense got going. Dell Rapids scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter for a 20-6 halftime lead. Neither team got a touchdown in third quarter, but Dell Rapids did make a 22-yard field goal to push the lead to 23-6 heading into the final quarter. The Quarriers then scored three more touchdowns in the final quarter for a 43-6 victory.
The Mustangs were held to just 185 yards of total offense, 181 rushing yards and just four passing yards. Dell Rapids finished with 398 yards of offense, 300 rushing yards and 98 passing yards. Issac McFarland led the ground attack for Tri-Valley with 10 carries for 66 yards. Besmer was just 1-11 passing for four yards. Lawson Loiseau had the four-yard catch.
Tri-Valley finishes the regular season with a 5-4 record and will be the #6 seed in the 11A playoffs. The Mustangs will travel back to Vermillion on Thursday, October 28th.
