Mudcats Win Cornbelt Opener

MudcatsLogoThe Dell Rapids Mudcats opened up the Cornbelt League season with a 3-2 win over Flandreau on Thursday, May 18th, at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.

Flandreau scored the first two runs of the game.  The first run came in the first inning on a throwing error.  Flandreau added to their lead at 2-0 after an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning.  The Mudcats got on the board after a Chad Hunt RBI sacrifice fly.  Aaron Johnson drove home the next two runs on a single to give Dell Rapids the lead.

Colin Karst started the game for the Mudcats, giving up two runs, but just one of them earned.  Nate Alfson pitched four innings in relief allowing just one hit while striking out seven.  Jimmy Bauer had two hits, including a double.

The Mudcats are scheduled to host the Sioux Falls Squirrels, but the Dell Rapids High School baseball team will be hosting the Region 2B “Super Regional” tournament games on Tuesday.  The Mudcats will host Renner on Thursday, May 25th.  The next Cornbelt League game for Dell Rapids is on Thursday, June 1st, in Humboldt.
