July 14, 2015 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

FLANDREAU, S.D. – An adult and a juvenile were killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash that occurred southeast of Flandreau.

South Dakota Highway Patrol officials say Joshua Krempges, 38, Flandreau, and Madyson Barbee, 11, Dell Rapids, were pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people were injured.

Monday’s crash, reported at 7:04 a.m., occurred at the intersection of 485th Avenue and 237th Street.

The Highway Patrol says a 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by Gary Eikmeier, Pipestone, MN., was traveling west on 237th Street. A 1989 Toyota Camry, driven by Joshua Krempges, was southbound on 485th Avenue. The Highway Patrol says Krempges failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with the pickup.

Besides the two fatalities in the Toyota Camry, three other passengers were injured. Malory Krempges, Madelyn Krempges, and Mariana Krempges all suffered life threatening injuries. They were transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. All are from Dell Rapids.

Eikmeier sustained minor injuries. He was treated and released from a Pipestone, MN hospital.

No charges are pending. The investigation continues.

Other assisting agencies were Moody County Sheriff’s Office, Moody County Ambulance, Trent Fire Department and Pipestone, MN, ambulance.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
