The De Smet Bulldogs turned a 14-point halftime lead into a 52-8 win at the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Friday, September 2nd.
De Smet scored the first 22 points in the first half. Britt Carlson connected with Kadyn Fast on a 27-yard touchdown pass with 8:04 to play in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead. Dylan Zell added a seven-yard touchdown run with 3:04 in the first. Carlson completed a pass to Zell for the two-point conversion, and De Smet led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Trace Van Regenmorter added to the lead on a four-yard touchdown run with 7:18 to play in the half. Carlson completed a pass to Gannon Gruenhagen for the two-point conversion and a 22-0 lead. St Mary got on the board with 4:41 to play on a seven-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was good, and the Bulldogs held a 22-8 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs only scored one time in the third quarter. Van Regenmorter had a three-yard touchdown run, and Fast scored the two-point conversion to put De Smet ahead 30-8 with 4:02 to go in the third quarter. De Smet scored three more times in the fourth quarter. Fast had a three-yard touchdown run, Carlson had a one-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown, and Gannon Gilligan had a 10-yard touchdown run.
The Bulldogs (2-1) will host Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Friday, September 9th.
