The De Smet Bulldogs ended the homecoming week happy after getting a 46-20 win over Great Plains Lutheran on Friday, October 11th.
Gannon Gilligan scored the first touchdown of the game on a 15-yard run with 5:36 to go in the opening quarter. Slayten Wilkinson made the two-point conversion for an 8-0 score. Ganon Henrich got a 12-yard touchdown run with 5:00 to go in the second quarter. Wilkinson made the two-point conversion to give De Smet a 16-0 lead.
Things then got wild for the remainder of the second quarter. The Panthers got on the board with a 69-yard touchdown run with 3:15 remaining to make the score 16-6. Wilkinson would take the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown. Gilligan scored the two-points for a 24-6 lead. Great Plains Lutheran scored again with 2:41 to play on a six-yard run. Their two-point conversion was good making the score 24-14. The score would remain 24-14 at halftime.
Henrich started the second half with some fireworks. He had an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to extend the Bulldog lead to 30-14. The Panthers got another score with 1:30 remaining in the the third quarter on a 73-yard touchdown pass to make the score 30-20.
The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter. Henrich had a 26-yard touchdown run with 10:27 to play. Wilkinson made the two-point conversion. Wilkinson would add a four-yard touchdown run with 4:24 remaining. Henrich then scored the two-point conversion for the 46-20 final score.
