De Smet Volleyball Falls at Home to Hamlin

The De Smet Bulldogs hosted the Hamlin Chargers in volleyball action on Tuesday, October 15th.  While each set was close, the Chargers won in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-20.

The Bulldogs opened the match with a 3-0 run in the opening set.  Hamlin responded with a 6-1 run to take a 6-4 lead.  They slowly increased their lead to 15-8.  De Smet would battle back and slowly cut into the lead.  The Bulldogs got within a point at 22-21, but the Chargers scored the final three points for a 25-21 win.

The second set went back and forth throughout most of it.  The teams started with a 4-4 tie.  Hamlin took a one-point advantage at 9-8.  They continued to lead by a point at 16-15.  The Chargers then extended the lead to 20-17 before finishing the set on a 5-1 run for a 25-18 victory.

Hamlin started the third set with a 5-2 run.  The Bulldogs rallied and got within a point at 7-6.  After trailing by two points, 12-10, De Smet went on a 4-1 run to take a 14-13 lead.  The score was then tied 16-16 and again 18-18.  From there the Chargers went on a 5-1 run for a 23-19 lead.  That run was key for Hamlin to finish the match with a 25-20 win.
