Hanson Holds off De Smet in Football Action

The De Smet Bulldog football team traveled to Alexandria to play the Hanson Beavers on Friday, September 6th.  Hanson took the lead in the first quarter and held for a 25-8 win.

Neither team scored a touchdown in the first quarter, but the Beavers made a 26-yard field goal with 4:40 to go in the quarter for a 3-0 lead.  The score remained 3-0 until the second quarter.  Hanson got a four-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion with 9:03 to play in the half to extend the lead to 11-0.

Ganon Henrich scored the only touchdown for the Bulldogs on a 34-yard run with 5:52 left in the second.  Henrich threw a pass to Slayton Wilkinson for the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 11-8.  Hanson, however, scored about two minutes later.  A 48-yard touchdown pass with 3:54 to go extended the lead to 17-8.  The lead stayed 17-8 at halftime.  Hanson scored in the first minute of the third quarter.  With 11:05 to go, a 55-yard run and two-point conversion gave the Beavers a 25-8 lead.  The two defenses held the rest of the game.

The Bulldogs had 199 yards of offense, 183 rushing yards and 16 passing yards.  Hanson finished with 264 yards of offense, 121 rushing yards and 143 passing yards.  S. Wilkinson had 15 carries for 92 yards.  Henrich finished with 18 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown.  RJ Cleveland had eight tackles.  Sam Gigov finished with six tackles.  S. Wilkinson had five tackles.  Gannon Gilligan and Grant Wilkinson both had four tackles each.
