The De Smet Bulldogs hosted the Deubrook Dolphins on Thursday, August 29th. The match went to five sets with the Dolphins getting the win 3-2.
After an early 3-3 tie, Deubrook went on a 7-2 run for a 10-5 lead. They continued their momentum and finished the first set on a 15-2 run for a 25-11 win. The Dolphins started the second set with a 3-1 lead. They slowly increased it to 17-12. The Bulldogs slowly chipped away at the lead and tied the scored 21-21. De Smet then took the lead 22-21 and won the second set 25-22.
The Bulldogs continued their momentum to start the third set and led 5-2. Deubrook tied the score 7-7, but De Smet went back in front 12-10. The Dolphins, however, went on a 9-3 run for a 19-15 lead. The Bulldogs got within three points 22-19, but Deubrook took the third set 25-20. After a 2-2 start to the fourth set, De Smet took a 6-5 lead. They continued on that lead throughout the fourth set. The lead was 13-7 and then 19-12. De Smet won the fourth set 25-13 to force a fifth set.
The fifth went back and forth. The score was tied 3-3. Deubrook took a small 6-5 lead, but De Smet tied the score 7-7. The Bulldogs then went ahead 9-7. They continued to lead 11-8 and 13-10. The Dolphins went on one last rally. They tied the score 13-13 and then scored the final two points for the 15-13 win.
