The De Smet Bulldogs volleyball season came to an end in the Region 2B tournament on Tuesday, October 31st. The Bulldogs were defeated by the Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds in straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-8, and 25-20.
The Warbirds got out to fast starts in the first two sets. In the opening set, Wolsey-Wessington got out to a 9-1 lead. They pushed the lead to 16-5 before winning 25-8. The Warbirds scored the first 10 points of the second set. De Smet trailed 20-8 before the Warbirds scored the final five points for another 25-8 win.
The third set started with a 3-3 tie. The Bulldogs then went on a 6-1 run for a 9-4 lead. De Smet continued to hold a slim 10-8 lead, but the Warbirds tied the score 14-14. Wolsey-Wessington then went ahead 18-14. The Bulldogs cut the lead to two points at 20-18 and 22-20, but the Warbirds scored the final three points for a 25-20 win.
The Bulldogs finish the 2023 season with an overall record of 4-24.
