Second Half Surge Lifts De Smet Girls to Win over Sharks

The De Smet Bulldogs trailed at halftime and shot under 25% in the first two quarter, but rallied for a 68-51 win over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks on Thursday, January 12th.

After a 12-12 through the first quarter of play, the Sharks started the second quarter on a 6-0 run.  Iroquois/Lake Preston led for the entire second quarter.  Jada Burke put a spark into the team with a last-second half-court shot to pull the Bulldogs within two points, 27-25, at halftime.  From that point forward, the Bulldogs were in control.  De Smet started the third quarter on a 12-0 run and did not trail the rest of the game.  The Bulldogs led 45-37 at the end of the third quarter.

De Smet shot 36% (26-72) from the field overall, 33% (8-24) from three-point line, and 73% (8-11) from the free-throw line.  The Sharks shot 36% (20-56) overall, 20% (3-15) from three-point area, and 57% (8-14) from the free-throw line.  The De Smet defense forced 30 turnovers, 18 of those in the second half.

Burke had 20 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals, and five assists.  Hazel Luethmers finished with 18 points, five steals, and two rebounds.  Alyssa Asleson added 16 points.  Emma Albrecht had 12 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
