The De Smet Bulldogs cruised into the quarterfinals of the 9B playoffs after a 50-0 win in the opening round on Thursday, October 20th. The #6 seed Bulldogs hosted the #11 seed Colome Cowboys, and De Smet ended the game on the 50-point rule with 7:16 left in the fourth quarter.
Kadyn Fast had two touchdowns in the first quarter. The first one was a five-yard run with 7:04 to play in the quarter. is second touchdown was a 13-yard run with 4:52 on the clock. De Smet led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Britt Carlson then had his hands on the next four scores for the Bulldogs. Carlson had a one-yard run with 3:49 left in the first half. A two-point conversion made the score 22-0, which was also the score at halftime. Carlson added a 12-yard run with 10:58 to play in the third quarter for a 28-0 score. The next two touchdowns were on pass plays. Carlson connected with Gannon Gruenhagen on a 29-yard pass with 7:55 left in the third quarter. The next touchdown pass from Carlson as a 62-yard connection to Trace Van Regenmorter with 5:25 left in the third. The Bulldogs led 42-0 at the end of the quarter.
Ganon Henrich got the final touchdown for the Bulldogs on a one-yard run with 7:16 on the clock. The two-point conversion was good, and the game ended 50-0.
De Smet will travel to #3 Kadoka on Thursday, October 27th.
