First Half Too Much to Overcome for Cardinal Girls

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals (15-4) shot just 18% in the first half and fell behind to the Wall Eagles on Friday, February 10th at the DWU Culver’s Classic in Mitchell.  The first half deficit the Cardinals fell into was too much to overcome, and the Eagles won 58-46.

Wall took advantage of the cold shooting by St Mary in the first half.  The Eagles led 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and 31-15 at halftime.  The Cardinals were just 5-28 overall in the first two quarters and 1-9 from three-point area.  Both teams finished with 13 points each in the third quarter, and Wall continued to lead by 16, 44-28, going into the fourth quarter.

St Mary finished the game shooting, 28% (17-61) overall, 26% (5-19) on three-point attempts, and 50% (7-14) from the free-throw line.  Wall was 37% (18-49) shooting overall, 31% (5-16) from three-point area, and 65% (17-26) from the free-throw line.

Madala Hanson had 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Ella Griffin had 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Brianna Griffin added eight points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Maya Heinitz had five points and six rebounds.
