Cardinal Girls Hang Tough but Fall to Jaguars

The St Mary Cardinal girls faced the #10 ranked Corsica-Stickney Jaguars at the DWU Classic at the Corn Palace in Mitchell on Friday, February 13th.  The Jaguars held off a second-half rally by the Cardinals for a 54-50 win.

The Jaguars held a four-point lead, 17-13, at the end of the first quarter.  They were able to extend that lead to a game-high 11 points in the second quarter.  The first half ended with Corsica-Stickney leading 32-23.  The Cardinals put together a great third quarter and cut the lead down to two points, 42-40, going into the fourth quarter.  The Jaguars were able to hold off the Cardinals in the fourth quarter for the win.

St Mary shot 35% (17-49) from the field overall, 30% (7-23) on three-point shots, and 69% (9-13) from the free-throw line.  Corsica-Stickney was 38% (19-50) shooting overall, 22% (5-23) on three-point attempts, and 69% (11-16) from the free-throw line.

Maddyn LeBrun had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Layla Joe Hanson also had 11 points.  Stephenie Geraets had seven points and six rebounds.  Sophia McNaughton had six points and four rebounds, while Madelyn Klein also had six points with three rebounds.  Lucy Vargas ended with five points.
