The St Mary’s Cardinal volleyball team is making some noise in Class B volleyball. The Cardinals had an 18-match winning streak and just finished 3-1 in the Orange Division of the Sanford Pentagon Tournament on Saturday, September 26th.
In the first match of the day, St Mary’s defeated Rapid City Christian by scores of 25-19 and 25-20. In their second pool-play match, the Cardinals faced Winner. They took that match in straight sets as well by scores of 25-16 and 25-18. With the two pool-play wins, St Mary’s entered bracket play as the #1 seed from Pool B.
The first match of bracket play, the Cardinals faced the #5 ranked Gayville-Volin Raiders. St Mary’s won another straight-set match. The won by scores of 26-24 and 25-13. The win put them into a match against the #5 ranked team in Class A, the St Thomas More Cavaliers. The Cavaliers won the first set 25-23. The Cardinals bounced back with a 25-21 in the second set. St Mary’s held a lead late in the third set, but St Thomas More rallied for a 25-23 win.
The Cardinals are currently 18-2 on the season with signature wins over Deubrook two times (15-4), #5 Gayville-Volin (18-2), Winner (10-2), and Rapid City Christian (14-6) with a close match against St Thomas More.
