The St Mary’s Cardinals volleyball team notched another win on Thursday, September 24th in Arlington. St Mary’s won in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-14 for their 15th straight match win.
St Mary’s took a quick 3-1 lead to start the first set. Arlington followed with a 3-0 run to go in front 4-3. The lead went back to St Mary’s, 6-4, after they went on a 3-0 run. They would not trail throughout the rest of the set even though Arlington would tie the score late. St Mary’s built a 16-10 advantage, but Arlington chipped away at the gap and tied the score 18-18. St Mary’s responded with a 3-0 run to make the score 21-18. After Arlington got within a point, 21-20 and 24-23, St Mary’s got the game-winning score for a 25-23 win.
The second set started with a fast 6-1 run by St Mary’s. They extended the lead to 9-3, but Arlington again battled to cut the lead down to two, 11-9. That would be as close as they would get. St Mary’s went on a 4-0 run to make the score 15-9. They worked their lead to 10 points, 22-12, before taking the win 25-19.
The third set started close as St Mary’s led 4-3. They would follow that slim lead with a 4-0 run to extend the gap to 8-3. Their lead grew to seven points at 17-10 and 21-14. St Mary’s then finished the set, and match, with four straight points for the 25-14 win.
