The St Mary’s Cardinal volleyball added another win to their record and pushed the winning streak to 11 straight after a straight-set home win over the Sioux Falls Lutheran Eagles on Tuesday, September 15th. St Mary’s won by scores of 25-21, 25-10, and 25-10.
The first set was a close battle. The Eagles broke a 2-2 tie for an early 6-4 lead. They would add another point to their lead at 10-7. Sioux Falls Lutheran continued to lead by three points at scores of 14-11 and 16-13. The Cardinals would tie the set at 17-17. St Mary’s would take a 19-18 lead and then extend it to 22-20. The Cardinals finished the set on a 3-1 run for a 25-21 win.
The momentum from the comeback in the first set carried through the second and third sets. The second set started with a 2-2 tie. The Eagles held a brief 4-3 lead, but that’s when St Mary took control. The Cardinals went on a 9-1 run for a 12-5 lead. They continued to keep the pressure on the Eagles all the way to a 25-10 win. St Mary’s started the third set with 3-2 lead that quickly grew to a 9-3 advantage. The Cardinals then went on a 9-0 run to make the score 18-3 before they won 25-10.
During the match, junior Natalie Gilbert reached 1,000 career set assists.
