The St Mary’s Cardinal volleyball team extended their winning streak to seven with a big win over the Canistota Hawks on Thursday, September 10th. The Cardinals cruised to straight set wins of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-4.
The two teams battled back and forth early to start the match. The score was tied 4-4, but then the Cardinals went on a couple of big runs. St Mary’s went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 lead. They would have an 8-0 run after leading 14-7 to extend their lead to 22-7 . The Cardinals finished the first set with a 25-10 win.
Canistota took a 4-2 lead in the second set after a 2-2 tie. St Mary’s responded with six straight for an 8-4 advantage. The Cardinals led 11-7, but the Hawks went on a 4-0 run to tie the score 11-11. St Mary’s would then go on a 6-0 run of their own to retake the lead 17-11. That run would keep them comfortably in the lead the rest of the set to a 25-17 victoy.
The Cardinals would roll through the final set. After leading by just a point, 2-1, St Mary’s scored nine straight for an 11-1 lead. They would have another 9-0 run after leading 14-3 to make the score 23-3 before taking the final set 25-4.
