The St Mary’s Cardinals played for the second straight day on Tuesday, September 1st. The Cardinals traveled to Garretson and won their sixth straight match with a four-set win by scores of 25-21, 25-13, 22-25, and 25-7.
The first set started with ties of 3-3 and 6-6. The two teams continued to battle back-and-forth to another tie of 13-13. The Cardinals went on a small 3-1 run to go ahead 16-14. The Blue Dragons responded with a 4-1 run to take an 18-17 lead. Garretson continued to lead at 20-19, but the Cardinals went on a 3-0 run for a 22-20 lead. That run gave them momentum as they won the first set 25-21. The momentum also carried into the second set. St Mary’s started with a 6-3 run and rolled from there. They pushed the lead to 12-6 and then 17-6. The Cardinals led 22-8 before winning 25-13.
Garretson broke a 2-2 tie in the third set with three straight points for a 5-2 lead. St Mary’s then went on a 7-0 run to go in front 9-5. The Blue Dragons battled to tie the score 10-10. Garretson was able to get on a run and took a 19-14 lead. The Cardinals tied the score 21-21, but Garretson responded with a 3-0 run to go back in front 24-21 before winning 25-22 to force a fourth set. The Cardinals rebounded over the break. They took an early 4-1 lead and slowly pushed that lead to 11-5. From there the Cardinals finished the match on a 14-2 run to win 25-7.
