The St Mary Cardinal boys hosted the Sioux Falls Lutheran Eagles in the Region 3B tournament on Friday, March 7th. It was the first game for the Cardinals in the tournament while it was the second game for the Eagles. St Mary rolled to a 73-43 win.
The Cardinals raced out to a 17-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game. They continued to hold a double-digit lead, 23-11, at the end of the opening quarter. St Mary’s offense continued to roll in the second quarter as the Cardinals built a 48-23 lead going into halftime. The Cardinals didn’t slow down in the third quarter. They hit the 30-point lead mark, 65-35, with 1:11 remaining in the quarter to trigger the running clock. The score remained 65-35 going into the final quarter.
St Mary shot 46% (27-59) from the field overall, 29% (8-28) on three-point attempts, and 73% (11-15) from the free-throw line. Sioux Falls Lutheran shot 38% (18-47) overall, 26% (5-19) on three-point shots, and 2-9 from the free-throw line.
Maverick LeBrun finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Trevon Beckman had 20 points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Trimmier Hanson ended with 15 points and three assists. Jaxon Baumberger had seven points and three rebounds.
