The St Mary Cardinal volleyball team notched another win, their 15th this year, after a straight set home win over the Centerville Tornadoes on Tuesday, October 15th. The Cardinals won by set scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-19.
St Mary was able to fend off rallies by Centerville in each of the three sets. The Cardinals took an early two-point lead to start the first set, 3-1. They still held a two-point advantage, 7-5, but then went on a 9-4 run to extend their lead to 16-9. Centerville cut the lead to three points, 17-14, but St Mary responded and pushed the lead back to six at 21-15. The Tornadoes rallied again and got within a point, 23-22. St Mary stopped the rally and scored the final two points for a 25-22 win.
The Cardinals again took a small lead to start the second set, 3-2. They grew the lead to three points, 7-4, but Centerville tied the score 7-7. St Mary was able to get a little separation and take a 14-10 lead. The Tornadoes chipped away and got within a point, 22-21, but again the Cardinals stopped the rally and finished the set with a 3-2 advantage for the 25-23 win.
Centerville struck first to start the third set and took a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals tied the score 5-5 and continued their rally to an 11-6 lead. For the third straight set, Centerville rallied to within a point, 16-15. And for the third straight time, St Mary was able to shut down the rally. They went on a 5-0 run to take a 21-15 lead and then finish the match with a 25-19 win.
Brianna Griffin finished with 11 kills, 19 digs, and two ace serves. Madala Hanson added 27 set assists, four kills, and four digs. Emersyn Herber had eight kills and five digs. Megan Geraets had six kills and six blocks. Stephenie Gereats ended with four kills. Reagan Griffin had nine digs, Jenna Miller finished with eight, and Jodie Klein had six digs.
