Cardinals Notch Straight Set Win in De Smet

The St Mary Cardinal volleyball team put another one in the win column on their great 2024 season on Thursday, October 17th.  The Cardinals took a straight set road win over the De Smet Bulldogs by scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-22.

St Mary opened the match with a 4-0 run.  They pushed their lead to six points, 14-8.  The Cardinals continued to lead by six, 17-11, but the Bulldogs scored the next three points to cut the lead in half, 17-14.  St Mary was able to keep the lead and took the first set 25-20.

The Cardinals started the second set with a 5-2 run.  They lead 10-6, but De Smet was able to tie the score 12-12.  St Mary went back in front 17-16 and then added another point to the lead at 20-18.  The Bulldogs tied the score again 21-21 and 23-23.  The Cardinals would score the final two points for a 25-23 win.

De Smet took the lead 2-0 in the third set and extended it to 9-3.  The Cardinals chipped away and got within a point, 25-11.  St Mary continued their run and went in front 15-14.  The Cardinals would hang on to the lead and push it to 23-20.  That cushion helped them to a 25-22 victory.

Madala Hanson finished with 42 set assists, eight digs, three kills, and two ace serves.  Emersyn Herber added 11 kills, seven digs, six blocks, and three ace serves.  Brianna Griffin had 13 kills and 21 digs.  Megan Geraets had 11 kills and seven blocks.  Reagan Griffin ended with 14 digs, Jodie Klein had 10 digs, and Jenna Miller added seven digs.
