The St Mary Cardinal volleyball team faced a tough schedule for the Dakota Valley Conference on Saturday, October 19th in Colman. The Cardinals faced Castlewood, Colman-Egan, Elkton-Lake Benton, and Deubrook and finished with an 0-4 record on the day.
Castlewood 2, St Mary 0
The Warriors avenged an earlier loss to the Cardinals by getting a straight set win in the tournament by scores of 25-20 and 25-15. Megan Geraets finished with seven kills. Stephenie Geraets had four kills. Madala Hanson added 17 set assists and four digs. Emersyn Herber ended with three kills, three digs, and two blocks. Jodie Klein had nine digs. Brianna Griffin had three digs and a kill.
Colman-Egan 2, St Mary 0
The CE Hawks then took a straight set match over the Cardinals by scores of 25-14 and 25-21. Herber had five kills and two digs. B. Griffin tallied three kills, a block, and a dig. Hanson finished with 12 set assists and 10 digs. Reagan Griffin, Klein, and Jenna Miller all had three digs each.
Elkton-Lake Benton 2, St Mary 0
The next opponent for the Cardinals was the Elks. Elkton-Lake Benton also won in straight sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-23. B. Griffin had 10 kills and 14 digs. M. Geraets added five kills and a block. Herber also had five kills and a block. Harper Werdel finished with four kills and two blocks, and S. Geraets had three kills. Hanson had 14 set assists, five digs, and two ace serves. Klein had 11 digs. Miller and Lucy Vargas both had seven digs each.
Deubrook Area 2, St Mary 1
St Mary took the first set of their match against the Dolphins 25-12, but Deubrook Area won the next two by scores of 25-18 and 25-22 to win the match. Herber had a team-high 12 kills with three digs. M. Geraets added nine kills and five blocks. B. Griffin had seven kills, three blocks, and seven digs. Werdel added four kills and two blocks. Hanson had 35 set assists and 10 digs. Klein had 14 digs, and Vargas finished with 13 digs.
