The St Mary’s Cardinal volleyball team finished 1-3 on the day at the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament in Colman on Saturday, October 18th.
The Cardinals lost a three-set match to the Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks by scores of 25-14, 20-25, and 25-23. Paige Geraets, Maddyn LeBrun, Harper Werdel, and Emersyn Herber all had seven kills each. Stephenie Geraets had six kills. Layla Joe Hanson had 18 digs. Werdel finished with 17 digs, and LeBrun had 14. Natalie Gilbert added 31 set assists.
St Mary’s lone win came against the De Smet Bulldogs. The Cardinals won by set scores of 25-16 and 25-15. Herber had 10 kills in the match, while Werdel had six. Gilbert had 23 set assists. Hanson tallied 14 digs. LeBrun and Werdel each had 10 digs. S. Geraets had two blocks. Herber also had three ace serves.
The Castlewood Warriors defeated the Cardinals in straight sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-19. LeBrun, Werdel, and Herber all had five kills each. Gilbert had 17 set assists. LeBrun led the team with 12 digs, while Hanson had 10 digs. Werdel finished with nine digs, and Gilbert had seven digs.
St Mary’s also played a close match against the Colman-Egan Hawks. The Cardinals took the first set 25-19, but Colman-Egan won the last two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-22. P. Geraets had seven kills. Werdel finished with six kills, and S. Geraets and LeBrun both had five kills. Gilbert had another 23 set assists in the match. Hanson had a team-high 18 digs. Gilbert, LeBrun, and Werdel all had 10 digs each. Werdel also tallied five ace serves.
