The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals earned their seventh straight victory with a Region 3B opening round win over the Colman-Egan Hawks on Tuesday, February 27th. The Cardinals defeated the Hawks in front of a full home crowd by a score of 69-50.
After a back-and-forth opening quarter, Colman-Egan held the first advantage at 14-13 going into the second quarter. The Cardinals would take the lead in the second quarter and held a 32-25 lead at halftime. The Hawks got within two points, 34-32, with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter. St Mary outscored Colman-Egan 26-10 the rest of the quarter for a 60-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals shot 44% (27-62) from the field overall, 20% (3-15) on three-point attempts, and 86% (12-14) from the free-throw line. Colman-Egan shot 40% (19-48) overall, 26% (5-19) from three-point area, and 50% (7-14) from the free-throw line.
Two players had double-doubles for St Mary. Maverick LeBrun had 19 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Trevon Beckman added 15 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Nic Gaspar nearly had a double-double with 20 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Trimmier Hanson finished with nine points and three rebounds. Lucas Flemmer had six points and two rebounds.
