A week after a one-point win over the Bridgewater-Emery, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals met the Huskies again in the Region 3B Tournament on Friday, March 1st.  The two teams put on another exciting game, and the Cardinals advanced to the SoDak 16 with a 52-50 victory.

The Huskies scored the first two points of the game in the first :15, but did not score again in the quarter.  During that time the Cardinals scored 15 straight points and led 15-2 at the end of the first quarter.  Bridgewater-Emery got the offense going in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 27-23 by halftime.

Their run continued into the third quarter as the Huskies scored the first six points to take a 29-27 lead.  The two teams went back and forth before the Huskies pulled away for a 40-34 lead with 1:00 to play in the third.  St Mary scored the final three points of the quarter to make the score 40-37.  The Cardinals went on a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter and led 43-40 with 4:40 to go.  Bridgewater-Emery responded with a 4-0 run to retake the lead 44-43.  Trimmier Hanson then scored five straight points for St Mary to put them ahead 48-44 with 1:30 to play.  The Cardinals made enough free throws to keep them in the lead despite a couple of made three pointers by the Huskies.  St Mary was leading 52-50 and rebounded a missed three-point shot.  They were able to run the clock down to :02.1 before being fouled.  After two missed free throws, the Huskies got a defensive rebound with :01.7.  Their long inbound pass was stolen by Trevon Beckman, and the Cardinals held for the win.

St Mary shot 40% (19-48) in the game overall, 26% (6-23) on three-point attempts, and 44% (8-18) from the free-throw line.  Bridgewater-Emery shot 40% (19-48) as well, 36% (5-14) from the three-point line, and 69% (9-13) from the free-throw line.

Nic Gaspar finished with 27 points and nine rebounds.  Beckman added 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.  Maverick LeBrun had five points, nine rebounds, and five assists.  Hanson also had five points with two assists.  Lucas Flemmer had two points.
