The #5 seeded Chester Flyers defeated the #4 seeded Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in the opening round of the Region 3B Tournament at Dell Rapids St Mary High School on Tuesday, February 20th. The Flyers advanced to the next round with a 55-39 victory.
Chester started with a 5-0 run and never trailed in the game. The Flyers ended the first quarter with a 19-12 lead. They extended the advantage to 30-22 at halftime. The Cardinals were within striking distance, 40-31, going into the fourth quarter. The Flyers, however, held St Mary to just eight points in the final quarter to take the win.
St Mary shot 25% (14-55) from the field overall, just 11% (2-18) from three-point area, and 50% (9-18) from the free-throw line. Chester shot 41% (20-49) overall, 36% (5-14) on three-point attempts, and 71% (10-14) from the free-throw line.
Brianna Griffin finished with a double-double, 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jenna Miller had seven points, three rebounds, and three steals. Maddyn LeBrun added six points and six rebounds. Addison Libis ended with four points and two rebounds. Stephenie Geraets and Megan Geraets both had two points each.
St Mary’s season ends with an 11-10 overall record.
