Cardinal Girls Keep Winning, Beat Iroquois/Lake Preston

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls kept their winning streak going with a 58-44 win in Lake Preston on Thursday, February 1st.  The got rolling late in the second quarter and rode the momentum to victory over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks.

After an early 5-4 lead by St Mary, the Sharks ended the first quarter with a 14-9 advantage.  Iroquois/Lake Preston continued to leave by five points, 19-14, around the midway point of the second quarter.  The Cardinals ended the half on a 13-5 run for a 27-24 halftime lead.  St Mary carried that momentum into the third quarter.

The Sharks did tie the game 32-32 early in the third quarter, but St Mary responded with an 8-3 finish to the quarter.  The Cardinals lead 40-35 going into the fourth quarter.  St Mary scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 45-35.  The lead grew to as high as 55-39 with 2:00 to go in the game.

St Mary shot 39% (22-57) from the field overall, 32% (7-22) from three-point area, and 41% (7-17) from the free-throw line.  Iroquois/Lake Preston shot 28% (15-54) overall, 24% (5-21) on three-point shots, and 45% (9-20) from the free-throw line.

Jenna Miller finished with 22 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two steals.  Addison Libis had 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Brianna Griffin added 11 points and five rebounds.  Maddyn LeBrun had three points and seven rebounds.
