Second Quarter Proves Costly for Cardinal Girls

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls only scored one point in the second quarter, and that proved to be the difference in a 58-49 loss to the Castlewood Warriors on Tuesday, January 16th.

St Mary went on an 8-0 run early in the first quarter for a 10-3 lead.  The Warriors responded with an 11-0 run for a 14-10 lead with 2:15 to go.  St Mary tied the score 14-14 by the end of the first quarter.  Castlewood would then outscore St Mary 17-1 in the second quarter for a 31-15 halftime lead.

The Warriors scored the first four points of the third quarter for a 35-15 lead.  They held a 40-21 lead with 5:00 in the quarter, but the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter for a 40-30 score going into the fourth quarter.  Castlewood responded with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter or a 49-30 lead with 5:20 to play.  St Mary finished the game on a 19-9 difference, but ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Jenna Miller had 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Addison Libis had 16 points and two rebounds.  Jodie Klein added seven points, six rebounds, and two assists.  Stephenie Geraets had four points and four rebounds.
