Third Quarter Rally Sparks Win for Cardinal Girls

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls rallied in the third quarter to spark a 51-47 home win over the Chester Flyers on Thursday, January 18th.

The Flyers got out to a 13-1 lead with 3:45 to play in the opening quarter.  St Mary scored the final six points of the quarter to cut the lead to 13-7.  Chester continued to lead throughout the whole second quarter and led 21-14 at halftime.

The Cardinals opened the second half on an 11-0 run for a 25-21 lead with 4:45 left in the quarter.  St Mary continued to build on the lead and had a 36-29 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.  The Flyers mounted a comeback of their own to start the fourth quarter.  Chester scored the first eight points to retake the lead 37-36 with 6:14 to play in the game.  The teams traded leads throughout the middle of the quarter, but St Mary started to pull away late for the win.

St Mary shot just 29% (17-58) from the field, 24% (5-21) on three-point attempts, but got the job done from the free-throw line shooting 63% (12-19).  Chester shot 34% (18-53) overall, 31% (5-16) from three-point area, and 60% (6-10) from the free-throw line.

Jenna Miller had 19 points, two rebounds, and three steals.  Addison Libis had 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Maddyn LeBrun finished with six points and 10 rebounds.  Stephenie Geraets added five points and two steals.  Jodie Klein had four points and 12 rebounds.
