Third Quarter Difference Gives Garretson Win over Cardinal Girls

A scoring difference of 20-3 in the third quarter was the deciding factor in a 46-35 win for the Garretson Blue Dragons over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Tuesday, January 2nd.

After neither team scored in the first five and a half minutes of the game, the Cardinals ended the first quarter with an 8-5 lead.  They scored the first basket of the second quarter and led 10-5 with 6:30 to go in the second quarter.  The Blue Dragons took the lead in the quarter, but two baskets in the final minute by Jodie Klein put St Mary ahead 16-15 at halftime.

The third quarter was the turning point in the game for Garretson.  The Blue Dragons outscored St Mary 20-3 in the quarter and led 35-19 going into the fourth.  The Cardinals outscored Garretson 14-11 in the final quarter, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

St Mary shot 25% (11-44) overall in the game, 26% (6-23) on three-point attempts, and 58% (7-12) from the free-throw line.  Garretson was 37% (20-54) shooting overall, just 1-7 on three-point attempts, and 50% (5-10) from the free-throw line.

Jenna Miller finished with 16 points and four rebounds.  Maddyn LeBrun had five points, five rebounds, and two assists.  Addison Libis added five points, two rebounds, and five steals.  J. Klein had four points and five rebounds.  Sierra Klein ended with three points and two rebounds.
