The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals bounced back after their loss to Deubrook with a win over the Madison Bulldogs the next day. The Cardinals defeated the Bulldogs 64-43 at the DVC Classic at Deubrook High School on Saturday, January 21st. St Mary forced 18 Madison turnovers, 12 of those on steals, as the Cardinals held Madison in check all game long.
The Cardinals built a 10-point lead, 20-10, by the end of the first quarter. They extended the lead to 37-17 by halftime after holding Madison to just seven second-quarter points. St Mary cruised through the second half never allowing Madison to get any closer than 15 points the rest of the game.
St Mary shot 38% (26-68) overall, 30% (12-40) from three-point area, and 0-2 from the free-throw line. Madison shot 36% (15-42) from the field, 38% (5-13) on three-point shots, and 47% (8-17) from the free-throw line.
The Cardinals had big games from multiple players. Madala Hanson had 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Ella Griffin finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds, six steals, and three assists. Whitney Warwick added nine points. Maya Heinitz ended with six points. Sydney Klein pulled down six rebounds and had eight assists.
