Cardinal Girls Extend Winning Streak to Six

The sixth win in a row didn’t come easy for the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals, but they still got the job done with a 57-52 victory over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Friday, January 13th.

St Mary looked to be headed towards another big victory.  The Cardinals led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.  St Mary scored the first three points of the second quarter and led 20-10, but the Raiders outscored the Cardinals 16-7 the rest of the half to cut the lead to 27-26 at haltime.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland took the lead early in the third quarter, 29-27, but the Cardinals held the lead 40-38 heading into the fourth.  The game was tied 40-40 and then again 46-46 about midway through the fourth quarter.  St Mary ended the game on an 11-6 run for the win.

The Cardinals shot 39% (19-65) overall, 33% (15-46) from three-point area, and 4-10 from the free-throw line.  The Raiders finished the game shooting 36% (20-55), 14% (2-14) from three-point area, and 59% (10-17) from the free-throw line.

Ella Griffin had 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Madala Hanson finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Whitney Warwick added 12 points.  Sydney Klein had nine rebounds and six assists.  Maya Heinitz finished with six rebounds, two assists, and one point.
