Mustang Boys Golf Team Qualifies for State Golf for Second Year in a Row

The entire Tri-Valley Mustang boys golf team qualified for the State A tournament for the second year in a row.  The Mustangs finished third as a team at the Region 1A Tournament at Madison Country Club on Monday, September 27th.

Tri-Valley finished with a team score of 381.  Aberdeen Roncalli finished first with 353, and Sioux Valley was second with 360.

Josh Leiseth and Riley Carlson both finished seventh with a round of 89.  Cole Focken placed 19th with a round of 97.  Lance DeWitt had a round of 106, and Mayson Rise had a round of 113.

The Mustangs will play in the South Dakota State A Tournament, also at the Madison Country Club, on Monday, October 4th and Tuesday, October 5th.

Mustangs Win Second Straight Road Game

The Tri-Valley Mustang football team won their second straight road game on Friday, September 24th.  The Mustangs traveled to Sisseton and came home with a 42-0 win.

Tri-Valley held just a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, but then scored 28 points in the second quarter.  Tri-Valley led 35-0 at halftime and added another score in the third quarter in the win.

Isaac McFarland had seven carries for 58 yards.  Three of those seven carries went for touchdowns.  Jaden Siemonsma had 11 carries for 54 yards, and he also had two chatches for 22 yards and a touchdown.  Eli McFarland had a rushing touchdown and went 7-10 passing for 87 yards and a touchdown.  Tyson VanDerVliet finished with three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown.  Austin McNulty had two grabs for 34 yards.

The defense was led by Colby Carruthers with eight solo tackles.  Hayden Hastings had three tackles and a fumble recovery.  Brandon Havlovic had three tackles and a sack.  Logan Ellison finished with two tackles and an interception.  Isaac Nehlich had a sack and fumble recovery.  McNulty also had a sack, and Seth Sundal had an interception.

Tri-Valley (3-2) will be at home on Friday, October 1st when they host the Madison Bulldogs.

Madison Rallies in Volleyball Win at Tri-Valley

The Madison Bulldogs rallied to win three straight sets after dropping the first one to the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, September 23rd.

Tri-Valley, playing in their fourth straight home match, took the opening set by a score of 25-21.  The Bulldogs, however, rallied to win the next three to win the match.  Madison won by set scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-17.

Jenna Hanson had 16 digs and two ace serves.  McKenzie Atwood had 11 digs.  Nevaeh Grann had three ace serves and three set assists.  Erica Bicknase tallied six kills and three blocks.  Megan Wenzel had four kills.  Maddie Wenzel finished with a team-high four assists.  Brooklyn Steiben led the team with 10 set assists.

The Mustangs head back on the road on Thursday, September 30th.  They travel to Salem to play the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars.

Three Race at Dell Rapids Cross Country Invite for Mustangs

Brie Peters, Lizzy Dahl, and Teagin Gacke represented the Tri-Valley Mustang varsity cross country team at the Dell Rapids Invite on Wednesday, September 30th at Rocky Run Golf Course.

Peters had a great run finishing fourth with a time of 21:42.79.  Dahl placed 46th with a time of 25:17.94.  Gacke completed the race in 21:47.22 for a 49th place finish.

They will be at the Tanager Invite at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion on Monday, September 27th.

Mustang Volleyball Falls at Home to Canton

After three straight five-set match losses for Tri-Valley, the Mustangs were looking to get over that hump and into the win column at home on Tuesday, September 21st.  The Mustangs hosted the Canton C-Hawks in a Dak-12 Conference match, but Canton got the win in straight sets.  They won by scores of 25-12, 25-22, and 25-16.

Nevaeh Grann finished with eight set assists and six digs.  Hannah West had four digs and three ace serves.  Brookelyn Steiben had a total of seven set assists and two ace serves.  Erica Bicknase had a team-high three kills, while Hillary Hastings had two kills.  Megan Wenzel had seven blocks, and Ava Pearson had six.

Tri-Valley (0-9) will host Madison on Thursday, September 23rd.

10th Place Finish for Tri-Valley Boys Golf at Dak-12 Tourney

The Tri-Valley Mustang boys golf team had a 10th place finish at the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Tuesday, September 21st in Madison.  The Mustangs finished with a team score of 393.  Vermillion won the team conference title with 340.  West Central was second (347), followed by Sioux Falls Christian (358).

Josh Leiseth tied for eighth place with a round of 85.  Mayson Rise finished with a round of 101.  Riley Carlson was one shot behind at 102.  Cole Focken finished with a 105.  Carson Sanders had a round of 108, and Lance DeWitt finished with a 115.

The Mustangs will play in the Region 1A Tournament on Monday, September 27th, also in Madison.

Tri-Valley Football Evens Record with Road Win

The Tri-Valley Mustang football team stopped a two-game skid and got back into the win column with an 18-0 shutout against the Chamberlain Cubs on the road on Friday, September 17th.  Tri-Valley was able to get at least three points in every quarter for the win.

The Mustangs first score of the game was a 73-yard touchdown run by Jaden Siemonsma.  The extra point was no good, and the score remained 6-0 in favor of Tri-Valley at the end of the quarter.  Tri-Valley added three more points in the second quarter on a 29-yard field goal by Reese Smith.  The Mustangs led 9-0 at halftime.

Smith added another field goal in the third quarter, this time from 22 yards away.  Tri-Valley led 12-0 heading into the final quarter.  Isaac McFarland got the final score of the game on an one-yard touchdown run.

Tri-Valley had a total of 252 yards of offense, 39 passing yards and 213 rushing yards.  The Mustang defense held Chamberlain to just 122 yards of offense, 15 rushing yards and 17 passing yards.

Eli McFarland was 2-5 passing for 39 yards.  Zach Powell had a catch for 37 yards.  Siemonsma had 15 carries for 136 yards and a touchdown.  I. McFarland finished with 14 carries for 42 yards.  I. McFarland also led the team with nine tackles, including a sack.  Tyson VanDerVliet had eight tackles and a sack.  Austin McNulty and Isaac Nehlich both had two sacks.  Connor Christensen and Caden Reuter also each had a sack in the game.  Lawson Loiseau had an interception, and McNulty had a fumble recovery.

The Mustangs (2-2) will travel to Sisseton on Friday, September 24th.

Mustang Volleyball Falls Short of Win Against Dell Rapids at Home

The Dell Rapids Quarriers and Tri-Valley Mustangs had quite the battle on Thursday, September 16th at Tri-Valley High School.  The two teams traded set wins and needed five sets to determine the winner.

Tri-Valley opened the match with a 25-21 victory.  Dell Rapids came back and cruised through the second set for a 25-12 win.  The third set went to the Mustangs by a 25-18 score.  Once again Dell Rapids cruised through another set, winning the fourth 25-13.  With the match tied 2-2, it came down to the fifth set.  Dell Rapids came out victorious with a 15-12 score.

This was the third match in a row the Mustangs have fallen in five sets.

Hillary Hastings had four kills, and Megan Wenzel had three on the night.  Wenzel also had seven total blocks.  Ava Pearson finished with three.  Jenna Hanson had a team-high 10 digs, and Hannah West had eight digs.  McKenzie Atwood had four ace serves.  Nevaeh Grann had 10 set assists in the match.  Brookelyn Stieben had nine set assists and one ace serve.

The Mustangs (0-8) look to get that first win of the season at home against Canton on Tuesday, September 21st.

Peters and Dahl Race at Charger Invite

Brie Peters and Lizzy Dahl raced for the Tri-Valley Mustang cross country team at the  Sioux Falls Christian Charger Invite at Yankton Trails Park on Tuesday, September 14th.

Peters placed 26th individually with a time of 22:26.34.  Dahl had a time of 25:30.48.

The Mustangs will be at the Dell Rapids Cross Country Invite on Wednesday, September 22nd.

Sioux Falls Christian Blanks Tri-Valley

The Sioux Falls Christian Chargers shut out the Tri-Valley Mustangs on the gridiron on Friday, September 10th at Tri-Valley High School.

The Chargers got a score in the opening quarter for a 6-0 lead.  Neither team was able to score in the second quarter, and Sioux Falls Christian led 6-0 at halftime.  The Chargers added another touchdown in the third quarter to push the lead to 12-0.  They then made a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Tri-Valley was held to just 134 yards of offense, 104 rushing yards and 30 passing yards.  Jaden Siemonsma had 11 carries for 47 yards.  Carter Sorenson had six carries for 20 yards.  Eli McFarland was 5-11 passing for 30 yards and an interception.  Tyson Vander Vliet had three catches in the game for 19 yards.

The Mustangs will travel to Chamberlain on Friday, September 17th.
