Dell Rapids Baseball Gets Second Straight Shutout Win

DellsBaseballLogo_DRBAThe Dell Rapids baseball team earned their second straight shutout win on Monday, April 29th.  Dell Rapids defeated McCook Central/Montrose 2-0 in Montrose behind a dominating pitching performance by Eddie Price.

Dell Rapids scored early again in this game.  Keegan Miller led off the game with a single and advanced to second on an error.  Jay Holm hit a bunt single to third base.  An error by the third baseman allowed Miler to score and Holm to advance to second base.  McCook Central/Montrose was able to get out of the jam by just allowing the one run, and Dell Rapids led 1-0 early.

Neither team was able to get much offense going, but Dell Rapids was able to get another run on the board in the top of the fifth inning.  Ty Wood was hit by a pitch with one out in the inning.  Wood then stole second, and was able to advance to third on a wild pitch during a Brandon Geraets at bat.  Geraets then laid down a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to bring home Wood for a 2-0 lead.

Price was dominant on the mound.  He pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up just one hit and four walks while striking out 11 batters.  Austin Henry got the final out on a strikeout after giving up a walk.

Holm led the offense with two hits in the game.  Miller had a single, and Jake Rechtenbaugh had a double in the game.  Geraets had the lone RBI in the game.

Dell Rapids (6-2) is currently scheduled to play in Tea on Wednesday, May 1st.

Dell Rapids Baseball Blanks Tri-Valley

DellsBaseballLogo_DRBADell Rapids earned their fifth win of the season and first shutout in a 4-0 win over Tri-Valley on Friday, April 26th.  The game had to change venues to Garretson in what has been a common theme for the high school baseball season this spring.

Keegan Miller led the game with a double and Jay Holm followed with a bunt single to give Dell Rapids two runners on base with no outs.  Eddie Price reached on an error, and Miller scored on the play giving Dell Rapids an early 1-0 lead.  Dell Rapids scored three times in the top of the fourth inning.  The inning began with two errors by the Tri-Valley defense.  Logan Stone drove home a run with an RBI single.  Miller also had an RBI single in the inning.  Austin Henry had an RBI groundout for the third run of the inning and final run of the game.

Jake Rechtenbaugh pitched the complete game for the shutout giving up just three hits and one walk while striking out nine batters.  Miller and Holm led the offense with two hits each.  Stone had the other hit for Dell Rapids.  Miller, Henry, and Stone all had an RBI.

Dell Rapids (5-2) will travel to Humboldt to play West Central on Sunday, April 28th, at 5:00 p.m.

Quarrier Track Competes in Canton

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier track team was able to have their second meet of the week on Thursday, April 25th.  Dell Rapids participated in the Terry Bong track meet held in Canton on Thursday afternoon.

The Quarrier girls finished with a total of 49 points for seventh place.  West Central placed first with 113 points, Sioux Falls Christian was second with 102 points, and Canton was third with 75 points.  The Quarrier boys finished with a total of 59 points to tie for fourth place with Tri-Valley.  Sioux Falls Christian placed first with 159 points, Lennox was second with 90 points, and West Central was third with 74 points.

Dell Rapids will be in Lennox on Tuesday, April 30th.

Big First Inning Enough for Dell Rapids

DellsBaseballLogo_DRBAA five-run top of the first inning was enough for Dell Rapids as they defeated Garretson 6-3 on Wednesday, April 24th in Garretson.

Eddie Price started the game with a lead-off double.  Jay Holm followed with an RBI single to give Dell Rapids a 1-0 lead just two batters into the game.  Keegan Miller walked and Austin Henry singled to load the bases with no outs.  After a strikeout, Jake Steineke hit a grand slam homerun to give Dell Rapids a 5-0 lead.  Garretson got one run back in the bottom of the first on a single by Dylan Kindt and an RBI single by Treyson Buckenberg.

Kindt drew a walk in the bottom of the third inning and scored on an RBI single by Brady DeBates.  Garretson would get another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Dell Rapids error to cut the lead to 5-3.  Tate Kolbeck hit an RBI single to score Steineke as an insurance run for Dell Rapids in the top of the fifth inning, which was the final run scored in the game.

Steineke, Kolbeck, and Henry all finished with two hits each.  Price, Holm, and Ty Wood also collected hits.  Steineke led the team with four RBIs and two runs scored.  Kolbeck and Holm drove home the other two runs.  Steineke also took the win for Dell Rapids on the mound pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.  Henry pitched the final 1 2/3 innings not allowing hit while walking one batter and striking out three.

Dell Rapids (4-2) will travel to Colton to play Tri-Valley on Friday, April 26th.

Quarrier Girls Golf at Dakota Dunes

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team also traveled to Dakota Valley for a meet at Two Rivers Golf Course at Dakota Dunes on Tuesday, April 23rd.

Dell Rapids finished with a team score of 409 at the event.  West Central won the team title with 364.  Parkston was second with a team score of 369, and Madison placed third with a team score of 370.

Sydney Emery had a ninth place finish individually with a round of 91.  Olivia Downs finished 20th with a round of 94.  Abby Greenhoff had a round of 111, and Jayme Schmidt finished with a round of 113.

The Quarriers will be in Canton for the Canton Triangular on Monday, April 29th.

Quarrier Track Adds Meet at Dakota Valley

NewDRLogoHaving had a couple of their early track meets cancelled, the Dell Rapids Quarrier track team was able to add a track meet to fill their schedule.  The Quarriers traveled to Dakota Valley High School for the Dakota Valley Invite on Tuesday, April 23rd.

Hannah Heiberger had a state-qualifying jump in the long jump with a first-place leap of 16’3.75″.  Brayden Pulscher bested his state-qualifying high jump leap from last week with a first-place jump of 6’4″.

Dell Rapids will be at the Terry Bong Invitational in Canton on Thursday, April 25th for their next meet.

Cardinal Track Back in Estelline

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals went back to Estelline for the Pat Gilligan Alumni Invitational on Tuesday, April 23rd.  Twenty different teams participated in the event for the girls and 24 teams participated for the boys.

The St Mary Cardinal girls team finished with a total of 57 points for sixth.  Colman-Egan won the girls title with 93 points.  Estelline/Hendricks was second with 78 points, and Deubrook Area finished third with 72 points.  The Cardinal boys team had a 14th place finish with 21 points.  Milbank placed first with 104.25 points.  Northwestern was second at 66 points, and James Valley Christian placed third with 59 points.

Ella Heinitz qualified for state in the 100m dash with a second place time of :12.67.  Maddie Schwebach also had a state-qualifying throw in the discus with a first-place throw of 120’5″.

St Mary will be in Chester on Saturday, April 27th for the Tom Main Track Meet.

Baltic Beats Dell Rapids in HS Baseball

DellsBaseballLogo_DRBAAfter driving to play at Dakota Valley High School, Baltic and Dell Rapids squared off in baseball action on Thursday, April 18th.  Baltic scored early and was able to hold off Dell Rapids for a 6-4 victory.

Baltic scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead.  They added two more runs on two hits and an error in the top of the third for a quick 4-0 advantage.  Dell Rapids cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third after RBI groundouts by Jake Rechtenbaugh and Charlie Holm.  Both teams were held scoreless until the sixth inning.  Baltic added two more runs on an RBI double by Elliot Haux to push the Baltic lead back to four at 6-2.  Dell Rapids got a two-run home run by Rechtenbaugh with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as Baltic closed out the victory.

Logan Stone, Jay Holm, and Rechtenbaugh all had two hits each.  Rechtenbaugh had three RBIs in the game, and C. Holm had one.  Stone took the loss for Dell Rapids pitching three innings giving up four runs, all earned, on four hits while walking one and striking out three.  Jake Steineke pitched four innings giving up two runs, both earned, on three hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.

Dell Rapids (3-2) will travel to Lennox on Monday, April 21st.

Quarrier Girls Hit Links at EPJ

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team hit the links on Thursday, April 18th for the Elk Point-Jefferson Invite.  Nine different schools had golfers at the event, but only five of those teams had a team score posted.

Dell Rapids finished fourth of those five teams with a team score of 473.  Canton placed first with a score of 409.  Vermillion was second with 415, and Elk Point-Jefferson finished third with 418.  Dakota Valley had a team score of 491.  Beresford, Lennox, McCook Central-Montrose, and Tea Area were the other schools represented at the invite.

Sam Schmidt had the low score for Dell Rapids with a round of 104, which was good enough for 12th place overall.  Abigail Greenhoff finished with a 115.  Mallory Haak had a 121, and Jayme Schmidt had a round of 133.

The Quarriers are scheduled to be at the Dakota Valley Invite in Sioux City, IA on Tuesday, April 23rd.

Quarrier Track Team Runs in Beresford

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier track team was able to get back outside for a track meet on Tuesday, April 16th.  Dell Rapids traveled to Beresford for the BAH Invite.

The Quarrier boys team finished fourth with a total of 61 team points.  Beresford won the boys title with 102 points.  Brookings was second with 78 points, and Tri-Valley finished third with 70 points.  The Quarrier girls finished seventh with 37 points.  Beresford also won the girls title with 116 points.  Brookings was second with 110 points, and Deubrook Area was third with 74 points.

Eddie Price had a state-qualifying discus throw 137’6″ which won him the event.  Brayden Pulscher qualified for high jump with a jump of 6’2″ which placed him second in the event.

Dell Rapids will be at the Terry Bong Invitational in Canton on Thursday, April 25th for their next meet.
