Cardinal Volleyball Falls to DeSmet

DRSM LogoThe DeSmet Bulldogs defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team on Tuesday, October 20th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  The Bulldogs won by game scores of 25-9, 25-14, 25-15.

Jackie Wolles finished the match with 12 digs and four kills.  Haley Michel ended the night with 10 digs.  Adyn Heinricy had nine digs and one set assist.  Cassy Geraets had seven set assists.  Sydney Cook finished with two kills for the Cardinals.  Kennedi Mullaney and Carly Maxwell both had one service ace.

St Mary falls to 2-22 on the year.  The Cardinals travel to Ramona to take on the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Monday, October 26th.

Quarrier Football Wins on Senior Night

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier football team picked up a win on senior night over the Dakota Valley Panthers 32-13 on Friday, October 16th, at Dell Rapids High School.

The Panthers scored first on a 52-yard pass from Luke Schmitt to Tyler Johnson to take an early 7-0 lead.  But from that point, the Quarriers dominated the game.  Hunter Hansen connected with Mason Peter for a 13-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.  Jacob Faux added a score on a four-yard run to give Dell Rapids a 13-7 lead after the first quarter.

Sam White then scored the next three touchdowns for Dell Rapids.  White closed out the first half with a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Quarriers a 19-7 lead at halftime.  White then caught a 72-yard pass over the middle from Hansen for a touchdown in the third quarter to put Dell Rapids ahead 25-7.  White’s third touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 58-yard run.  The Panthers closed out the scoring on a four-yard run by Robert Rosequist.

Dell Rapids finished the game with 85 passing yards and 213 rushing yards for a total of 298 yards of offense on 55 plays.  Dakota Valley had 280 yards of total offense on 57 plays.  Dell Rapids was 6-11 on third down and 0-1 on fourth down conversions.

Hansen finished the game 3-5 passing for 85 yards and two touchdowns.  White had two catches for 72 yards and a touchdown, while Peter had one catch for a 13-yard touchdown.  White led the ground attack with 16 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown.  Faux finished the night with 15 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Peter led the Quarrier defense with eight tackles in the game.  Tanner Heim had five tackles.  Seth Andersen also had five tackles and one sack.  Ross Wiebenga finished with four tackles and a sack.  White had three tackles and two interceptions.

Dell Rapids improves to 3-5 on the year.  The Quarriers will close out their 2015 season on the road at Lennox on Thursday, October 22nd.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinal Football Races to Win in Final Regular Season Game

DRSMvsCE_FB_10-16-15The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal football team won their final regular season game of the year 38-16 over the Colman/Egan Hawks on Friday, October 16th, in Colman.

The first quarter was a defensive battle as neither team was able to score.  However the Cardinals were able to break the tie and score with 11:17 to go in the second quarter on a 14-yard touchdown run by Josh Brown.  Christian Schnieders scored the two-point conversion to give St Mary an 8-0 lead.  After forcing the Hawks to punt after three plays, the Cardinals scored again on their next drive with 8:22 to play in the half on a two-yard run by Brown to go ahead 14-0.  The St Mary defense again held the Hawks to just three plays before another punt, and Brown set up the St Mary offense with a 50-yard punt return.  Schnieders scored with 5:25 left in the second quarter on a one-yard run to put the Cardinals ahead 20-0.

St Mary scored first again in the second half.  Schnieders scored his second touchdown of the game with 8:03 left in the third quarter on a five-yard run, and the Cardinals led 26-0.  Schnieders scored for the third time in the game with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter on a 12-yard run to put St Mary ahead 32-0.  Colman/Egan finally got on the scoreboard with :27 to go in the third quarter on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Bodee Groos to Josh Giese.  The two-point conversion was good on a pass from Groos to Walker Olivier to make it a 32-8 St Mary lead.  The Cardinals answered right back with 10:15 to go in the game on a 49-yard touchdown run by Brown to push the lead to 38-8.  The Hawks scored with 8:38 to go on a two-yard run by Groos.  Groos connected with Colt Hawkins for the two-point conversion to make the score 38-16, but that was the last time Colman/Egan would touch the ball.  St Mary ran out the final 8:38 of the game for the win.

Brown finished the night with 27 carries for 258 yards and three touchdowns.  He also had four tackles and one interception on defense.  Schnieders tallied 18 carries for 131 yards and three touchdowns.  Dalton Houska finished with six carries for 24 yards.  Defensively for the Cardinals, Garret Frost had 5.5 tackles.  Noah Fiegen ended the night with 7.5 tackles and 2.5 sacks.  Zach Geraets added six tackles and 1.5 sacks.

The Cardinals finish the regular season 6-2.  St Mary will have their open date on Thursday, October 22nd, and will await their opponent for the first round of the playoffs which will be on Tuesday, October 27th.

Four Quarrier Cross Country Runners Qualify for State

NewDRLogoFour Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country runners qualified themselves for the 2015 State A Cross Country Meet by finishing in the top 20 at the Region 2A meet held in Madison on Thursday, October 15th.

Shaylee Hoff finished 17th with a time of 21:14.27.  Aspen Hansen finished 19th with a time of 21:14.27.  Caleb Kirschenmann finished 15th for the boys with a time of 17:52.90, and Carter Wynja finished 19th with a time of 18:08.21.

Other participants in the Region 2A meet for the girls team were Kathryn Fletcher (22:41.13), Katie Jaycox (23:08.44), Olivia Downs (23:40.11), and Shaina Visser (23:51.94).

Other runners for the boys team were Brett Mogen (19:00.40), Ted DeLange (19:26.13), James Lueders (20:26.01), and Dominic Holmes (20:45.33).

The 2015 State A Cross Country Meet will be held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls on Saturday, October 24th.

Cardinal Cross Country Runners Headed to State

DRSM LogoSeveral Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cross country runners will be participating in the 2015 State B Cross Country meet.

The entire girls team will be headed to the state meet after finishing second in the Region 2B meet on Wednesday, October 14th, in Howard.  The Cardinals finished with a total of 26 points.  Gayville-Volin was crowned the Region 2B Champions with 15 points.  Howard finished third with 37 points.

Christina Vogel finished second individually with a time of 20:26.5.  Ella Heinitz finished seventh at 20:43.3.  Tana Harrington placed 18th with a time of 21:34.6.  Catherine Vogel had a time of 22:42.9.  Paige Bunkers had a time of 24:02.5.

Connor Libis also qualified individually for the state meet by finishing ninth in the boys meet.  Libis finished with a time of 18:23.0.  Drew Wood finished with a time of 21:12.9.  Thomas Eining had a time of 23:50.4, and Hunter Griffen finished with a time of 24:02.1.

The 2015 State B Cross Country Meet will be held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls on Saturday, October 24th.

Quarrier Volleyball Snaps Skid

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team ended their 10-match losing streak with a win over the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Tuesday, October 13th, in Dell Rapids.  The Quarriers won by game scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-23.

“This win was a result of a total team effort.  We have been struggling, but the team is continuing to work through our struggles.  Attitude determines altitude.  I appreciate the team’s efforts in practice and matches.  We will continue to get better and ready ourselves for the post-season play,” said head coach Dale Solberg.

Chloe Solberg finished with 37 set assists, 11 points and 12 digs on the night.  Emma Paul added 19 kills and 22 digs.  Trinity Gordon had 11 kills and 21 digs.  Mikaela Stofferahn had seven kills, while Hannah Welbig finished the match with 16 digs.  Jayda Knuppe added 11 points and five kills for Dell Rapids.

The Quarriers improve to 6-15 on the year.  Dell Rapids will travel to Sioux Falls Christian to face the Chargers on Thursday, October 15th.

JV Results:

The JV team earned a win to improve to 11-5 on the year by scores of 25-20, 25-23.  Tiffanie Dorale had nine digs, three kills, and 13 points in the match.  Kenzie Gullickson finished with nine digs, and Knuppe had five kills, four digs, and nine points.

C Team Results:

The C team earned a 27-25, 22-25, 15-9 victory over Deubrook to improve to 16-3.

Cardinal Volleyball Beat by Estelline

DRSM LogoThe Estelline Redmen defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-13, 25-22.

Kayla Scherff led the Cardinals from the service line with two aces on the night.  Kennedi Mullaney had five kills, while Sherff added three.  Cassy Geraets had six set assits.  Haley Michel and Jackie Wolles both had five digs on the night.

Estelline was led by Makensie Saathoff with 10 ace serves, Jamie Begalka with 10 kills, and Brinn Begalka with 11 set assists.  Shanie Hollenbeck finished with seven digs for Estelline.

The Cardinals fall to 2-17 on the year.  St Mary will play in the Dakota Valley Conference tournament held at Deubrook High School in White on Saturday, October 17th.

Baltic Hands Quarrier Volleyball Setback

NewDRLogoThe Baltic Bulldogs defeated the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team on Monday, October 12th, by scores of 25-13, 25-23, 25-13.  The loss was the Quarriers’ 10th loss in a row.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “We have to continue to battle harder if we are to get out of our funk.  We are struggling in too many facets of the game and our play shows it.  During these times of struggle, we have to pull together and not become divided.  Winning will take care of itself.”

Mikaela Stofferahn finished the match with eight kills and one block.  Emma Paul added six kills for Dell Rapids.  Trinity Gordon ended with 21 digs, while Chloe Solberg dished out 17 assists.

Dell Rapids falls to 5-15 on the year.

JV Results:

The Quarrier JV team earned a win over Baltic by scores of 23-25, 25-16, 15-8.  Leaders of the match included Ravyn Hoffman with 16 points, Kenzie Gullickson with 14 digs, Jayda Knuppe with seven kills, and Tiffanie Dorale with 13 digs, seven kills, and one block.

C Team Results:

The Quarrier C team earned their 15th win of the season by defeating Baltic 25-19, 25-18.  Regan Stone had four kills and 11 digs in the match.  Hoffman had five points, nine digs, and six assists.  Knuppe finished with seven points, seven digs, and two kills.

Milbank Area Comes from Behind Against Quarriers

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Milbank Area Bulldogs scored three touchdowns in a row in the second and third quarters to come from behind and beat the Dell Rapids Quarriers 26-21 on Friday, October 9th, in Milbank.

The Bulldogs got on the board first on a 61-yard run by Tanner Gauer in the first quarter to lead 6-0.  Dell Rapids scored two times in the second quarter.  The first touchdown came on a 90-yard run by Hunter Hansen.  Jacob Faux scored on a four-yard run to give Dell Rapids a 14-6 lead.  Milbank Area pulled within two points on a two-yard touchdown run by Kyle Montag.  Dell Rapids held a 14-12 lead at halftime.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the third quarter to regain the lead for good.  Nolan Foss connected with Isaac Snaza on a 16-yard touchdown pass, and Gauer scored again on a 26-yard run to put the Bulldogs ahead 26-14.  Dell Rapids got one more score on an Adam Nagelhout 13-yard run towards the end of the third quarter.

The Quarriers finished with 300 yards of total offense, 31 passing yards and 269 rushing yards.  They were 2-9 on third down and 1-2 on fourth down.  Dell Rapids also turned the ball over three times in the game.

Hansen finished 2-10 passing for 37 yards and two interceptions.  Hansen also carried the ball six times for 142 yards and a touchdown.  Faux had 12 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown.  Nagelhout had four carries for 29 yards and a touchdown.  Sam White had 10 carries for 26 yards.

Dell Rapids falls to 2-5 on the year.  The Quarriers will host Dakota Valley on Friday, October 16th, in their final home game of the year.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinal Football Offense Erupts in Win

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals and Deubrook Area Dolphins combined for a total of 120 points and 918 yards of offense on Friday, October 9th, in Dell Rapids.  The Cardinals defeated the Dolphins 78-42.

St Mary had a total of 618 yards of offense.  Josh Brown finished the game with 26 carries for 319 yards and seven touchdowns.  Christian Schnieders had 20 carries for 254 yards and four touchdowns.

Schnieders also led the defense for the Cardinals with 9.5 tackles and one sack.  Dalton Houska finished with nine tackles.  Jacob Frost added 6.5 tackles and two sacks, while Jacob Glazier returned to action with 8.5 tackles.

The Cardinals improve to 5-2 on the year.  St Mary will end it’s regular season schedule in Colman against the Colman-Egan Hawks on Friday, October 16th.
