Luella Eulberg

Luella Eulberg, 85, of Dell Rapids passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the Christian Wake Service beginning at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary on Sunday, September 09, 2012 at Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. www.kahler.com

Luella was born on June 26, 1927 at Dell Rapids, SD, the daughter of Raymond and Mayme (Lickteig) Dresch. She grew in Dell Rapids and attended school at St. Mary School. Her junior year, she moved to California and returned for her senior year graduating from St. Mary. After high school, she married Jerome Eulberg on June 3, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. The couple made their home on the family farm. In 1994, the couple retired and built their home in Dell Rapids. Jerome passed away on February 7, 2012.

Luella was a member of St. Mary Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed her family, had a strong faith, and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She was known for her cooking and baking and she always made sure there was extra. No one went hungry.

Luella passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. She was 85 and preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her granddaughter, Gina, her six sisters and one brother.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, June (Gary) Sutherland of Pipestone, MN, Peggy (Paul) Sutherland of Brandon, Rita Eulberg-Mavity of Sioux Falls, Vickie (David) Grav of Dell Rapids, Dick (Paula) Eulberg of Dell Rapids, Fred (Gail) Eulberg of Dell Rapids and Gary (Terry) Eulberg of Baltic; her 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Robert Anderson

Robert W. Anderson age 90 of Tracy, MN died Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. The interment will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 4, 2012 in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Slayton, MN, after a luncheon served immediately following the service in the church social hall. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.

Robert (Bob) William Anderson was born April 6, 1922 to Oscar and Edith (Krueger) Anderson in Otisco, MN. He attended country school and then Blue Earth Public Schools. As a youth he lived and worked on an area farm. One of his highlights as a 4-H’er was raising and showing the 1940 Junior Livestock Show Grand Champion Steer. He enrolled in the University of Minnesota Agricultural School on the St. Paul Campus and graduated in 1941.

Bob moved to Chula Vista, CA and worked for Consolidated Aircraft before enlisting in the Army Air Corp as an Aviation Cadet for pilot training. On November 22, 1942 Bob married Dorothy Schroll of Slayton, MN in Chula Vista, CA. He received his honorable discharge on March 1, 1944.

They returned to Minnesota and farmed near Dovray, MN. In 1962 they moved to a farm west of Tracy, MN. After a farm accident, Bob retired from farming and became a feed salesman. In 1999 Bob and Dorothy moved into Tracy until October of 2011 when they moved to O’Brien Court.

Bob was a member of Tracy Lutheran Church and a past member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. He served on both church councils, was a member of the Tracy Lions Club and served as a longtime 4-H leader. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, woodworking, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. All these things he enjoyed, live on through his children and grandchildren.

On Friday, August 31, 2012, Bob died at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy at the age of 90.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy Anderson of Tracy, MN; two daughters, Peggy (Sander) Ludeman of Tracy, MN and Marcy (Jim) Anderson of Dell Rapids, SD; two sons, McRae (Cindy) Anderson of Afton, MN and Mark (Lori) Anderson of Crystal, MN; seven grandchildren, Tara and Jon Anderson; Kyle (Jamy), Karsten, and Kiira Anderson; Sander (Breanna) Ludeman and Dayna (Ben) Bassett; seven great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Helen Schroll of Jackson, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.

Paul Berg

Paul Berg, 55, of Garretson, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at his home. His funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Paul Berg was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend.  He was a very tender hearted gentle bachelor of nearly 56 years. Paul grew up on a farm near Garretson SD where he lived his whole life.  Paul leaves behind two brothers Danny and David and three sisters Laura, Patti and Amy and his Mother Lorena Berg. He had many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Paul cared greatly for every one of them.

As a child, Paul was quite sickly with severe asthma and allergies so he was unable to work on the farm. As a result of this he found his passion and love for music. He started organ lessons in the 6th grade. He grew into a talented diverse musician. He graduated from Garretson High school in 1974 and Augustana College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in music. Paul worked at Eros Data Center for nearly 30 years until the year 2008.

Paul was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer in March 2009. He has fought the battle with his faith and love for life, greatly exceeding doctor’s expectations. August 31st 2012 the Lord called him home, taking away his pains and struggles. He Loved family. He would spoil the younger kids and nieces and nephews with huge Christmas gifts. All the Nieces and Nephews loved him dearly. He thought the world of the children. In his words “Children are magical.”

Paul was a very diverse musician and could play any kind of music and many kinds of instruments. He was a very polished classical musician. Anybody could just name a song and he could play it. Paul played in the Chosen Few band, The Something New Band and Group Therapy band through his years.

He also was a church organist for numerous churches. The last church he was organist at was the Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. He had many friends from Zion and loved playing there.
Paul was a very social person and loved visiting with people. He had many friends and enjoyed going out to eat with family and did so nearly every day. Paul from childhood on up had a motorcycle and greatly enjoyed riding with his brothers and friends.

Paul is preceded in death by his father Palmer Berg and Grandparents Bennie and Lenora Berg, and Bjarne and Edna Halvorson.  Paul is survived by his mother, Lorena Berg of Garretson; his brothers, Dan (Ellie) Berg of Dell Rapids and David (Laura) Berg of Garretson; his sisters, Laura Boese of Jasper, MN, Patti (Dan) Stensland of Garretson and Amy (Tracy) Kirk of Centerville; his nephews, Joel, Jay, Dustin, and Andres; his nieces, Hallie, NeVaeh, Aaliyah, Ruby, Vivian and Clarice and his many great nieces and nephews.

Paul’s faith in God was very apparent through how he loved people and lived life! Paul’s spirit and music will live on. We will miss him dearly.

Murray Sandro

Murray C. Sandro, 54, of Sioux Falls, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 31, 2012. Murray C. Sandro was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on October 7, 1957, the son of Clayton and Luella Sandro. He grew up on a farm in the Trent area. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids and was confirmed in 1972.  He attended and graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1975.  He attended the University of South Dakota. He worked for Colman Electric and John Morells.  In January of 1982, he became employed by Citbank. Murray held various positions within Citibank and was currently a Security Services Investigator.  In January of 2012, he had served Citibank for 30 years.

In 1979, Murray met the love of his life, Julie Gilmore. They were married on October 16, 1982 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. They farmed on the home place near Trent and then moved to Sioux Falls in December of 1984. Murray and Julie enjoyed several traveling adventures including Branson, MO, Yellowstone National Park, Wisconsin, Colorado, two Carnival Cruises, and a trip to the southern tip of Mexico.

His hobbies included collecting farm toys, remote control vehicles, and photography. He won an award for his photography for the State of South Dakota. He enjoyed camping, especially visiting with friends and family around the campfire. As always attired in camouflage.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Julie of Sioux Falls; his mother, Luella Sandro of Dell Rapids, his sister, Joni (Pete) Bunce of Casper, WY; his mother-in-law, Lorrayne Montecuollo of Sioux Falls; his brother-in-law, Jeff (Lynn) Gilmore of Renner and his nieces and nephews, Caleb and Whitney Bunce of Casper, WY and Carrie (Nate) Runt of Harrisburg and Nathan (Kim) Gilmore of Las Vegas, NV.

Murray was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Sandro and his grandparents.

Gene Alberts

Gene Alberts, 69, of Dell Rapids passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Reformed Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Logan Reformed Cemetery. Gene Herman Alberts was born at Dell Rapids on June 24, 1943 the son of Herman and Marvel (Johnson) Alberts. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school until high school when he attended and then graduated from Trent High School in 1961. He married Kathy Krempges in Dell Rapids. He worked for John Deere in Pipestone, MN and then for Kayser Implement in Dell Rapids as a tractor mechanic. He retired in 1988.

Gene was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper, camper and gardener. He and his children and grandchildren worked the garden and sold vegetables every summer until 2009. He was a 20 year member of AA.

He is survived by his daughters, Jami Alberts (Brian) of Trent and Niki Alberts (Brian) and family of Crooks; his two granddaughters, Ashley and RaeAnne; his long time companion, Jean Leonard; his sister, Ellen (Doug) Carroll of Stillwater, KS; his brother, Merle (Faith) Alberts of Dell Rapids; his sister-in-law, Barb Alberts of Colman, and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Arnold.

Charles W. A. Olson

Charles W. A. Olson, age 72, of Bloomington taught in ND, MT, Jackson, MN and longtime music teacher in Richfield schools. Frances “Fran” Donaldson

Frances “Fran” Donaldson, 62, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 with the family present at 6:00 p.m. and the prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home.

Fran was born on July 7, 1950 in Sparta, VA, the third of eight children born to Ethel (Young) Heesch. In 1953 Fran moved with her family to Dell Rapids, SD where she attended school. She was married in 1969, and to that union she bore her son, Jamie, who was the love of her life.

Fran worked for the Dell Rapids School System for twelve years, sharing her warmth and compassion to the children she inspired. She then worked at Citibank where she received various awards for being an outstanding employee. She most recently worked in the business office for Krueger Excavating in Sioux Falls. Fran was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Dell Rapids. She had a strong faith in God and her courage and strength was a great inspiration to her church family.

Her favorite past times included gardening and canning vegetables, baking, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren, who brought so much joy to her life. Fran will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love of family and friends, her faith in Jesus Christ, and her ability to provide nurture and support to those around her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Jamie Donaldson; her grandchildren, Haley and Orion Donaldson all of Dell Rapids; her sisters, Alma (Harvey) Shumaker of Humboldt, Jane (Jerry) Hogan of Dell Rapids, Mary (Dennis) Gannon of Dell Rapids, Grace (Larry) Wellman of Sioux Falls, Susan Rae of MN; her numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Mae Heesch and her nephew, David Lee Shumaker.

Audrey Elhoff

Audrey C. Elhoff, 93, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Avera Dells Area Hospital. She was born May 7, 1919 in rural Colman, SD to Fred and Jessie (Dunlap) Elhoff. She graduated from Colman High School in 1937 and then cared for her parents. They moved into Colman the fall of 1951 and Audrey went to work at the Colman Post Office where she was a clerk for 34 years, retiring in 1988. Audrey was a member of Colman United Methodist Church, UMW and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the American Postal Workers Union, NARFE and enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening.

Audrey is survived by a brother Charles, Sioux Falls, a sister Harriet (Jerome) Kleinsasser, Brookings, a sister-in-law Elaine Elhoff, Colman and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Benjamin and two sisters, Elaine Rudd and Betty Stearns.

Margaret Horak

Margaret Louise was born March 13, 1921 at Sibley, Iowa to parents Andrew and Johanna (Bouwer) Luxen. She graduated from Worthington High School.

Margaret married James Horak, Jr. August 9, 1941 at Worthington, MN. She moved with him to various Air Force bases while he served as an Army Air Corps pilot in World War II  After his discharge they lived in Austin, MN, Rapid City, SD and Brookings, SD where she worked as a bookkeeper for Northwestern Public Service Company.Margaret and James traveled extensively with their Winnebago motorhomes. She served as president of the state Ringneck Winnies Travel Club.

 After their retirement they moved to Mims, FL where they followed the NASA program, witnessing over 70 launches and landings. Fishing was always a big part of her life and they enjoyed almost 30 years of surf fishing on the shores near Kennedy Space Center. Margaret loved to bake and there was never a day in their house without cookies, cakes or her special apple pies. Her husband and son where avid hunters and fisherman so she learned how to cook all they brought home. She taught her family to appreciate nature with her extensive flower and vegetable gardens. Her kind nature, great sense of humor and positive attitude was a powerful influence in her family’s lives. Margaret woke smiling every morning and sang or hummed her favorite songs.

Margaret passed away in Dell Rapids Saturday, August 4, 2012 from complications of pneumonia at the age of 91.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Ronda (Dave) Reimers, Gilford, NH, James (Claudia) Horak III, Ellijay, GA and Carol (Mick Boyles) Horak, Dell Rapids; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Richard) Sola, Kristel (Michael) Acre and Thomas Horak; five great-grandchildren, Kelly Sola, Christopher Sola, Ryan Sola, Gillian Horak and Sonia Horak; Mick’s daughter, Brooklyn Boyles; three sisters, Anne Roskam, Titusville, FL, Edna Lowery, Pacific Grove, CA and Sharlene Hohensee, Worthington, MN.
