The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal football team dropped a tough game on the road to the Estelline Redmen on Friday, October 5th. The Cardinals outgained the Redman 291 yards to 271 yards, but penalties and turnovers turned out to be the difference in the game. The Cardinals had 293 yards of rushing and -2 yards of passing offense. Josh Brown led the team with 19 carries for 166 yards and a touchdown. Ben Bunkers carried the ball 21 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. Christian Schnieders carried three times for 26 yards. Defensively for Dell Rapids St Mary, Jared Scholten had 11.5 tackles in the game. Jacob Frost added seven tackles, Brown had 6.5 tackles and Schnieders had six tackles.
Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “We played hard for the most part, but turnovers and penalties cost us in the end. We’ll have to try and rebound this week against Arlington.”
The Cardinals record falls to 3-3 on the year. Dell Rapids St Mary will travel to Arlington on Friday, October 12th. The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.
