October 24, 2014 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

DellRapidsStMaryFootballDell Rapids St. Mary’s completed their regular season with a win over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders 48-20 behind four rushing touchdowns by Josh Brown. Brown who rushed for 207 yards had touchdown runs of 47, 45, 79 and one yard.

St. Mary stared the scoring with a two-play drive on their opening possession of the game. Brown broke free on a 47-yard run down the right side to put the Cardinals up 6-0. On their next possession, St. Mary scored on a short touchdown run by Christian Schnieders, and with the two-point conversion, St. Mary was up 14-0 early. Brown scored again with 45-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was again all St. Mary. The Raiders could not get a drive going, and the Cardinals capitalized. The first score of the quarter was a Jacob Glazier 10-yard touchdown run to make it 28-0. After a wonderful punt by Jamus Brown of O-R-R to pin St. Mary to the one, on the second play of the drive Brown ran for 79 yards for the touchdown making it 34-0 at half.

In the third quarter, the Raiders scored on their first possession with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Nick Skyberg to Jacob Hegdahl cutting the lead to 34-6. St. Mary responded with Brown’s fourth touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run. O-R-R scored again before the end of the third quarter on another Skyberg touchdown pass making it 40-12 at the end of the third quarter.

St. Mary scored on a touchdown pass from Casey Hansen to Noah Fiegen in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 48-12.  As the clock was running down, O-R-R scored on a half-back pass from Jamus Brown to Bennet Trygstad for the final score of the game.

The Cardinals finish the regular season with a 7-1 record.  St. Mary will host Waverly/South Shore Tuesday, October 28th, at 6:00 p.m. in the first round of the 9B playoffs.
