The Baltic high school baseball team picked up two wins at home on Wednesday, May 13th. They hosted both Howard and Elkton/Lake Benton.
Baltic 11, Howard 4
Two big innings led to the win for Baltic over Howard. Each team scored two runs in the second inning for a 2-2 tie. Howard picked up another run in the top of the third, but Baltic responded with four runs in their half of the inning for a 6-3 lead. Baltic added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 11-3. Howard scored their final run in the top of the sixth.
Elias Oakley finished with three hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Jackson Goehring had two hits. Mikey Grunewaldt added a single with two RBIs. Laken Kortemeyer, Alex Hockenberry, and Zach Helgeson all had one hit and one RBI each. Bordy Hansen also had a single. Kortemeyer pitched seven innings and allowed four runs, all unearned, on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
Baltic 11, Elkton/Lake Benton 8
More big innings helped Baltic come from behind to beat Elkton/Lake Benton. Elkton/Lake Benton scored six times in the top of the first inning. Baltic picked up four runs in the bottom of the inning for a 6-4 score after one inning of play. Baltic tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third. Elkton/Lake Benton regained the lead, 7-6 with a run in the top of the fourth. Baltic, however, took the lead for good with a five-run bottom of the fourth to take an 11-7 lead. Elkton/Lake Benton was only able to score just one more run in the top of the sixth.
Helgeson had two hits and two RBIs. Oakley finished with two singles. Hockenberry added a hit with two RBIs. Goehring and Grunewaldt both had a hit and an RBI. Aaron Nordbye had a single. Cale Roach pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed six earned runs on two hits and four walks with one strikeout. Oakley tossed 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks while recording 13 strikeouts. Nordbye pitched one inning and had one walk with two strikeouts.
