Baltic High School Baseball Plays Two in Vermillion

The Baltic high school baseball team traveled to Vermillion on Saturday, May 3rd and played against both Beresford and Vermillion.  Baltic suffered a loss in both games.

Beresford 15, Baltic 4

A six-run inning was enough for Beresford in their win over Baltic.  After a scoreless inning, Beresford scored six runs in the top of the second.  Baltic cut the lead in half, 6-3, with three runs in the bottom of the third.  Beresford, however, scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to go ahead 11-3.  Baltic added one more run in the bottom of the fifth only to see Beresford scored four more times in the top of the sixth inning.

Gavin Skotvold finished with three hits.  AJ Grunewaldt had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Braxten Allen had a double and single.  Elias Oakley, Jackson Goehring, Cale Roach, and Ryder Siemonsma all had one single each.

Isaac Oakley pitched one inning and allowed five earned runs on two hits and five walks.  Skotvold pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on two hits and nine walks with two strikeouts.  Bordy Hansen threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Vermillion 14, Baltic 0

Vermillion’s pitching staff held Baltic to just three hits in the game.  The offense for Vermillion scored two times in the bottom of the second inning.  They would score three more in the bottom of the third and then delivered a big nine-run bottom of the fourth.  The game ended on the 10-run rule after five innings.

E. Oakley had a double in the game.  Roach and Skotvold each had one hit.  E. Oakley pitched three innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on two hits and seven walks with two strikeouts.  Goehring allowed eight runs, seven earned, on three hits and a walk.  Laken Kortemeyer threw one inning and allowed an earned run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
