The Baltic Bulldogs and the Garretson Blue Dragons faced one another in the 5th/6th place game of the Big East Conference Tournament in Parker on Saturday, September 12th. The Blue Dragons won the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 16-25, and 25-15.
Garretson took an early 4-2 lead to start the first set. Baltic then went on a 6-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Bulldogs continued to hold a lead for while. They led by scores of 11-9, 14-11, and 15-12. The Blue Dragons would tie the score 15-15. Baltic responded with a 3-0 run to to back in front 18-15. Garretson, however, ended the seton a 10-2 run to take the win 25-20.
The second set went back-and-forth to a tie of 5-5. Garretson would go on a 5-1 run to go ahead 10-6. That lead grew to 13-7. The Bulldogs battled back to within three points 15-12, but that was as close as they would get. Garretson slowly extended their lead to 20-14 and then 23-17 before taking the win 25-17.
It looked like momentum was on the side of the Blue Dragons to start the third set. They grabbed an early 4-2 lead. Baltic would then go on an 8-2 run to go in front 10-4. The Bulldogs continued to ride the momentum and went on another 6-2 run to extend their lead to 16-8. That was all the cushion they would need as they cruised to a 25-16 victory to force a fourth set.
The two teams battled back-and-forth again to start the fourth set to a 5-5 tie. The Blue Dragons then went on a 9-0 run to take a 14-5 lead and never looked back. They stayed comfortably in the lead throughout the rest of the set to a 25-15 win.
