The Baltic Bulldog volleyball team hosted the first two rounds of their half of the bracket of the Big East Conference Tournament on Thursday, September 10th. The Bulldogs faced Parker/Marion and then Beresford in their two matches.
Parker/Marion 3, Baltic 1 (25-22, 25-19, 26-28, 25-22)
The Pheasants started the first set with an early 3-2 advantage. They extended that lead to 7-3, but the Bulldogs rallied to pull within two 13-11 and then eventually tie the score 15-15. The rest of the set remained close. Parker/Marion held a point-point lead at 19-18 and 22-21. After Baltic tied the score 22-22, the Pheasants scored three straight for a 25-22 win. The second set started with the same 3-2 Pheasant lead. They again pushed their lead to 7-3. Parker/Marion kept their four-point lead at scores of 12-8 and 15-11. Baltic would rally in the second set as well and tied the score 17-17. The Pheasants, however, finished the set with an 8-2 run to win 25-19.
Baltic struck first in the third set and took a quick 5-1 lead. Parker/Marion counted with a 6-0 run to go in front 7-5. The score was tied at 8-8 and again at 14-14. The Pheasants held a slim 19-18 lead before the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run to take a 22-19 lead. Baltic was at set point, 24-22, but Parker/Marion tied the score 24-24. The set was tied again 25-25 and 26-26. The Bulldogs finally scored the final two points for a 28-26 win. Parker/Marion grabbed an early 4-2 lead to start the fourth set. They held leads of 9-6, 11-9, 15-14, and 21-18. Baltic rallied again to tie the score 22-22, but the Pheasants rallied for three straight to win 25-22.
Balic 3, Beresford 0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-16)
In the consolation round, the first set started with a 3-3 tie. Baltic would take a 9-5 lead and continue to roll from there. They only allowed Beresford to score two more points the rest of the set on their way to a 25-7 win. The Bulldogs kept that momentum going in the second set. They took an early 4-1 lead and slowly grew that lead to 10 points, 16-6. Baltic would finish the second set with a 25-12 win. After an early 3-2 lead, the Bulldogs extended the lead to 7-3. The Watchdogs closed the gap to 10-8 and 13-11. Baltic then extended their lead to five points, 17-12. Beresford pulled within four points, 20-16, but Baltic scored the final five points for a 25-16 win.
