Vermillion’s First Half Run Leads to Win over Baltic Girls

The Vermillion Tanagers used a big first half run to get a 70-35 win over the Baltic Bulldog girls in Vermillion on Thursday, January 9th.

The Tanagers scored the first four points of the game for an early 4-0 lead.  Harper Kortemeyer made a three-point shot with about 5:30 to play in the first quarter to pull the Bulldogs within a point, 4-3.  Vermillion, however, scored the next 18 points of the quarter for a 22-3 at the first break.  The #2 ranked Tanagers continued their run in the second quarter.  They outscored Baltic 26-5 for a 48-8 halftime lead.  The Bulldog offense played a much better second half.  They held a 20-14 scoring advantage in the third quarter to make the score 62-28 going into the final quarter.

Baltic shot 32% (12-38) from the court overall, 42% (5-12) on three-point shots, and 6-8 from the free-throw line.  Vermillion finished the game shooting 44% (27-62) overall, 42% (8-19) on three-point attempts, and 53% (8-15) from the free-throw line.

Kortemeyer finished with 11 points, two rebounds, and two assists.  Caitlyn Pickett added 10 points and five rebounds.  Meredith Larson had nine points and seven rebounds.  Sadey Holt ended with three points and four rebounds.
