The Baltic Bulldogs hosted the Parker Pheasants for their homecoming football game on Friday, September 13th. The Pheasants took the win in a close, defensive battle, 16-6.
Both defenses were strong all game long. Neither team was able to get a score in the opening quarter. Baltic got a good drive going and put themselves into a first and goal situation late in the second quarter. Parker’s defense held strong and forced a 4th and 13 play. The Bulldogs ran a pass play that was completed a few yards short of the first down, but a face mask penalty on the tackle gave the Bulldogs a first and another chance at a score. Baltic took advantage, and #25 scored on a two-yard run with 1:46 in the half to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead they would take into halftime.
Parker got the ball on offense to start the third quarter. Their first drive stalled, and the Pheasants were forced to punt. A great punt, however, pinned the Bulldogs inside their own five-yard line. The Pheasant defense took advantage and forced a safety with 9:29 to play in the quarter to make the score 6-2. Parker’s offense finally broke through with 2:39 to go in the quarter on an eight-yard touchdown pass on fourth down. A successful two-point conversion gave the Pheasants a 10-6 lead.
The Bulldogs were able to put another good drive together, but unfortunately the drive ended on an interception in the Parker end zone with 11:20 to play in the game. The two defenses traded stops over the next couple of possessions. After a Bulldog drive that ended on a turnover on downs, the Pheasants score on a 67-yard touchdown run with 5:19 left in the game to make the score 16-6.
