Cubs Football Faces Tough 2024 Schedule

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs football team finished 9-1 a year ago falling to Deubrook in the semifinals of playoffs.  Head coach Brian Haak says that this year’s schedule will be a tough one.

“Our schedule is tougher this year.  We will need to be mentally and physically prepared every week for our opponent,” said Haak.  He noted that Howard, Viborg-Hurley, and Dell Rapids St Mary, all on the regular season schedule, will be tough opponents.

This year’s team will feature seniors Evan Brown, Jose Topete-Lopez, Ethan Bovill, Ethan Brown, Zachary Kemner, Declan Allen, Joshua Driesen, Raider Wickre, and Owen Serck.  Juniors Darin Dykstra and Tommy Walth are returning starters from a year ago.  Jacob Cole, Wayne Overhulser, Evan Haak, and Jackson Meyer are also expected to see some significant action.

“We will need some young players to step up and play physically on the offensive and defensive lines.  Our team will also need to stay healthy.  The passing game needs to also improve for us to beat quality teams,” adding Haak.  “Our skill kids are experienced and athletic.  They have had a lot of success in the past and know how hard it is to win.  This group has great team chemistry.”

The Cubs open the season on Friday, August 23rd at Howard.
