The Alcester-Hudson Cubs (5-8) put together a fourth-quarter rally, but ran out of time on Friday, January 25th. The Cubs fell to the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals 52-48.
Alcester-Hudson got into a 10-point hole by the end of the first quarter, 22-12. St Mary added another point to the lead, 35-24, by halftime. The Cardinal lead grew to 44-31 in the final minute of the third quarter. Emily Winquist hit back-to-back three-pointers to finish third quarter and cut the lead to 44-37. Every time the Cubs got within four points in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals had an answer. Alcester-Hudson got within three points, 51-48, with :20 to go, but St Mary made one of two free throws with :16 to play to secure the win.
The Cubs shot 45% (18-40) overall, 43% (3-7) from three-point area, and 4% (9-14) from the free-throw line. St Mary finished the game shooting 33% (19-57) in the game, 27% (10-37) from three-point area, and 44% (4-9) from the free-throw line.
Elly Doering finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and three steals. Winquist had 11 points. Alexis Gray added six points, two rebounds, and a steal. Emma Solberg had four points and two rebounds.
