Alcester-Hudson Softball Drops Two Games in Vermillion

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs softball team played two games in Vermillion on Saturday, April 28th.  The Cubs played Elk Point-Jefferson and Vermillion.  They lost both games by the same 9-8 score.

Elk Point-Jefferson 9, Alcester-Hudson 8

The Cubs held a 6-4 lead after the first two innings of play.  The Huskies scored two runs in each of the first two innings.  Alcester-Hudson had a five-run first inning and added another in the the second.  Elk Point-Jefferson scored three times in the top of the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. They added two more runs in the top of the sixth.  The Cubs rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on first base, but the Huskies shut down the rally for the win.

Elly Doering had three hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Delta Pies had a home run and double with two RBIs.  Emma Moller also had two hits and two RBIs.  Hannah Ahart finished with a single and two RBIs.  Emma Solberg and Laney Decker both had a single.  E. Moller pitched seven innings and allowed nine runs, six earned, on eight hits and seven walks with 10 strikeouts.

Vermillion 9, Alcester-Hudson 8

The Tanagers shocked the Cubs with six runs in the bottom of the seventh to get a come-from-behind win.  Alcester-Hudson led 5-1 after two innings of play.  Vermillion cut the lead to 5-3 after scoring a single run in both the third and fourth innings.  The Cubs put three runs on the board in the top of the sixth for an 8-3 lead before the Vermillion come back.

Jenna Manning finished with three hits, including a double.  Solberg added two hits.  E. Moller had a home run and three RBIs.  Pies and Ahart both had a single and two RBIs each.  Doering added a double and an RBI.  Paxtyn Moller and Alexis Gray each had a single.  E. Moller pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs, six earned, on 11 hits and five walks with six strikeouts.
