Big First Inning Leads Vermillion Past Tri-Valley

April 6, 2021 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

Vermillion scored five times in the first inning on their way to a 13-3, five-inning win over Tri-Valley on Monday, April 5th, in Vermillion.

Tri-Valley scored in the top of the first inning after an RBI single by Logan Colwill.  That lead would be short lived has Vermillion tied the game after their first three batters reached base.  Vermillion scored four more times in the inning on two hits, five walks, and a hit batter.  Tri-Valley got a run back in the top of the second when Tyler Groenewold scored after a Vermillion error.

Vermillion scored two runs each in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings to end the game on the 10-run rule.  Tri-Valley’s final run came in the top of the fourth inning after an RBI groundout by Brayden Humble.

Riley Haynes, Riley Carlson, Colwill, and Groenewold all had hits in the game.  Colwill and Humble both had an RBI.  Beau Keith started on the mound pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up five earned runs on two hits with four walks and a strikeout.  Carlson pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.  Colwill pitched an inning giving up four earned runs on four hits and two walks.
