First Quarter Run Propels Colman-Egan over Cardinals

DRSM LogoThe Colman-Egan Hawks scored four touchdowns in five minutes in the first quarter on their way to a 46-6 win over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Friday, October 14th, at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.

The Hawks scored the first touchdown with 4:32 to play in the first quarter when Bodee Groos connected with Kade Groos on a 14-yard touchdown pass.  The second touchdown was scored with 3:46 to go when B. Groos returned a blocked punt about 25 yards for a touchdown to go ahead 14-0.  Colman-Egan scored again :17 later when Walker Olivier returned an interception about 45 yards for a touchdown.  B. Groos scored again for Colman-Egan as time expired in the first quarter on a 16-yard run to put the Hawks ahead 28-0 after the first quarter.

Colman-Egan scored again before halftime.  The next score came with 6:12 to play in the second quarter on a 12-yard run by Keith Crittenden to give the Hawks a 34-0 heading into halftime.  Colman-Egan scored first again in the second half.  With 6:32 to play in the third quarter, Trey McKnight scored no a three-yard run.  St Mary finally was able to get on the board with 7:35 to play in the game when Evan Brown scored on a one-yard run.  The final score of the game came with :21 left on the clock on a five-yard run by McKnight.

The Cardinals finished the game with 180 yards of rushing offense.  Colman-Egan had 273 yards of total offense, 182 rushing yards and 91 passing yards.  Garret Frost had 24 carries for 112 yards in the game.  E. Brown had eight carries for 40 yards and a touchdown.  E. Brown led the team defensively with eight tackles.  Frost added seven tackles.  Dalton Houska finished the game with five tackles.

The St Mary Cardinals finish their regular season with a 3-5 record.  St Mary will have their bye week on Thursday, October 20th.
