Dell Rapids Baseball earned a trip back to the state final four after two super regional wins on Sunday, May 22nd, at Rickeman Field.
Dell Rapids opened up the three-game super regional with a 7-0 win over Madison. Dell Rapids scored three times in the first inning and added four more runs in the second inning for the win. Brett Mogen pitched six innings of no-hit baseball for the win. Eddie Price pitched a perfect seventh inning. Mogen finished with 14 strikeouts. Carter Gullickson had two hits in the game including a double and two RBI. Bo Teveldal had a two-run home run in the first inning. Matt Gillogly, Mogen, Eric Klein, and Mason Peter all collected hits for Dell Rapids. Gillogly also had two RBI.
Dell Rapids concluded the day with a 10-8 win over Sioux Valley to advance to the state finals. Sioux Valley had an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but Dell Rapids answered with three in the bottom of the first for a 3-1 lead. That lead was short-lived as Sioux Valley picked up four runs in the top of the second, and Sioux Valley lead 5-3 after two innings. However, Dell Rapids scored three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth, and one run a piece in the fifth and sixth innings. Sioux Valley rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth, but Price got the final four outs of the game for the save.
Trevor Pulscher earned the win for Dell Rapids pitching 3 2/3 innings in relief of Trey Randel. Pulscher gave up three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out two.
Seven Dell Rapids’ hitters had hits against Sioux Valley. Nate McKee had three hits, Gullickson, Gillogly, and Mogen each had two hits, and Josh Roemen, Teveldal, and Klein each had a hit. McKee, Mogen, Klein, Roemen, Teveldal, Gillogly, and Casey Hansen all had an RBI in the game.
